[The Sacred Boudhanath]
Located just 7 km (4.3 miles) east of town, Boudhanath is sacred to Tibetan Buddhism with the acclaimed largest pagoda of South Asia. Serving as a resting place for wary travelers and merchants along the ancient trade route with Tibet, the temple is a place for offering prayers for safety for upcoming journeys and upon their return, prayers of appreciation are offered after their long journeys. It is an excellent place to learn more about Tibetan culture.

[The ancient city Patan]
Located to the south, Patan is the oldest city in the Kathmandu valley and is separated from Kathmandu by the Bagmati River. It is said King Asoka built the town in the year of 299 AD. Also known as "Lalitpur (The City of Beauty)" this city is very beautiful and quaint. The historic nature of the city is deeply rooted with what is said are King Asoka's stupas that still exist since 3rd century BC on all sides of the town.

[Kathmandu Durbar Square, the old Royal Palace]
Durbar (which means 'Royal Square or Court') was the center of the Kingdom of Kathmandu during the era of King Ratna Malla but the history of the area dates back to 3rd Century AD. Since King Malla's reign, various kings competed for the beauty of decoration of the Buildings. With 20 or more temples lining the square and all built over many years, show the variety of architecture. There are countless points of interest including Kumari's hall, where the living goddess is worshiped.
